A BUSY weekend for Dorchester Rugby Club awaits, with two senior men’s teams in league action and six of its junior sides in Dorset & Wilts Cup action.

Dorchester’s first XV head to rivals Sherborne Seconds for what is likely to be a tough battle in Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts One South.

The county town outfit, led by James Newsam, will be keen to get more playing time under their belts after the disappointment of a late cry off by Lytchett Minster last weekend.

Coach Martin Oxland has struggled with availability this week but managed to name a strong squad to travel the short distance.

Josh Ovey returns to first-team duty as does Jake Bosher and young winger Louis Verkaik will be keen to make his mark once again.

Tom Bamlet and Damon Ashmore are named in the replacements as they make welcome returns this season.

Heading into Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts Two South action against Bridport, but with the knowledge they will have home advantage in the local derby and the combined voice of the Coburg Road faithful, Matt Fry’s A XV will want to come away with maximum points from the game.

Again fielding a strong squad, Fry looks to the experience of Paul Broadbent to step into the second row alongside Tim Stephens while the hard-tackling James Franzen is named as centre.

Dave Clark, fresh from a great outing with the Gladiators XV last weekend, will be ready to control the game from scrum-half alongside Fry who will play at fly-half.

The match against Bridport kicks off at 3pm at Coburg Road.

Dorchester’s junior section have a full day of Dorset & Wilts Cup fixtures on Sunday, the under-12s, 13s, 15s and 16s all lock horns with Weymouth & Portland, Bridport, Bradford-on-Avon and Wimborne respectively.

The Colts play in the afternoon against Chippenham.

The girls’ teams are also set for big days with the under-13s and 15s both in a Dorset & Wilts “super cluster” at Clayesmore School whilst the under-18s are set to play Sidmouth away in the National Cup.
