On Saturday 14 th September Dorchester Rugby Club are holding a Charity Black Tie Ball at the Dorset
County Showground in the Members Pavilion.

The guest of honour for the evening is Ex Scotland and British Lions Fly Half Craig Chalmers. Capped

after dinner speech. He toured Australia with the British & Irish Lions in 1989 and was part of two
World Cup squads with Scotland in ’91 and ’95. Currently an ambassador for the Wooden Spoon
Charity, his tales are not to be missed.

Three charities are being supported by the event, Wooden Spoon the Children’s Charity of Rugby,
Dorset Mind and Weldmar. Dorchester Rugby club has strong links with Weldmar, in that Sir Joseph
Weld one of the founders and driving forces behind the local hospice, is a former President of the
club and the club currently carries the Hospice logo on its first team kit.
With the Rugby World Cup close on the horizon in September this is the ideal way to kick the
tournament off by way of celebration and raise money for three worthy causes where all funds will
be used locally.

The evening will commence with a glass of Bubbly followed by a three course dinner, table
entertainment is provided along with a cocktail bar. Craig Chalmers will entertain with his after
dinner speech followed by both raffles and auctions to raise funds for the charities. Current auction
items are: A week in a holiday cottage in Porthleven, a week in a holiday cottage in Normandy,
afternoon tea with Lord & Lady Fellowes of West Stafford, Spa treatments, glamping, an Alpaca
experience and some prestige hampers.

Given the success of the clubs last charity World Cup Ball this is sure to be a great event. Tickets and
